According to the Hindu lunar calendar, is held every year in the month of Ashwin (between around mid-September and mid-November). In 2025 YogAnga Retreat will celebrate Holi at Sri Santosh Puri Ashram on October 20th.
Diwali is also ofter called Deepawali, due to the lamps that we light around our homes. It is believed keeping ghee lamps in the windowsills and doorways of one’s home, invites the Goddess Laxmi to enter and thus blesses our home with abundance and prosperity. The days prior to this holiday are often spend deep cleaning one’s home.
Diwali symbolises the spiritual victory of Dharma over Adharma, light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance and thus the illumination of our inner selves. It’s a reminder that if you let God into your life, it will light up every corner of your existence.
Come gather with us in this special time of year to celebrate Diwali at Santosh Puri Ashram. Mingle among friends (old and new) and fellow devotees. Dress up, spread ghee lamps around the ashram’s mandir, gardens, stairways, balconies and your own doorways.
Hindus celebrate Diwali to rejoice in Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya from a 14-year exile after defeating the evil Lord Ravana and rescuing the Goddess Sita, who had been Ravana’s captive. The festival marks the homecoming and reawakening of good over evil. It is said the villagers lit a path for Rama, to show him the way home.
