schedule: courses & ashram retreats 2014 – 2015

Course schedule is based on moon calendar and may change due to natural calamities, however the contentment will always remain as the spirit of the master’s divine flame.

Arrival time is best between 10am – 5pm, a day before the course begins. All courses begin and end with a fire ceremony. There are led yoga classes everyday, self practice on all Sundays, full moon and new moon.

Clinical Yoga
Morning Sessions: • YogAnga SHATKARMA sequence
[aka Clinical Yoga. The first limb of Hatha Yoga, six cleansing practices according to the ancient scripture “Gheranda Samhita” meant to purify the body and prepare oneself for the practice of asana, etc.]
• YogAnga ASANA sequence
[Done according to the moon cycle: starting with the day after the new moon, with eight asanas added every two days, until the series expands to reach 56 total asanas by the day before the full moon, then eliminating eight asanas every two days until the day before the following new moon, like the waxing / waning of the moon. New Moon and Full Moon are days off. Sundays are self practice / co-teaching days.]

[a combination of asana, bandha and pranayama]
Afternoon Sessions: • Alignment & Basic Anatomy
• Physiology – the skeletal, muscular, respiratory, nervous & endocrine systems including movement of joints & it’s application to yoga
Evening Sessions: • YogAnga PRATYAHARA sequence – guided techniques of controlling the senses
• YogAnga PRANAYAMA sequence – guided breathe / life force techniques

[Each subtle exercise, involving the prana, mudras and bandas, when done with sincerity and one pointed devotion, slowly opens whole body, awakens the higher centers and prepares the nervous system for the handling of dynamic energy of kundalini.]
• YogAnga SHATKARMA sequence (entire month)

NOTE: each of the three, one month courses in the Autumn Season Teacher Training Series, have a variation of Ganga’s asana series: Rajas, Tamas, Satva. One can particpate in each month separately earning 200 hours, or all three months in a row and the full 500 hours.
Clinical Yoga – NOTE: this course can be taken separately from the Teacher Training, in which case participant would join the morning YogAnga SHATKARMA sequence sessions, and then the general asana class.

Sri Santosh Puri Ashram is a retreat center for spiritual research and studies of the yogic art of living. Following the lineage of their parents (Santosh Puri Maharaj & Narvada Puri Mata Ji) Ganga, Mandakini, Alaknanda and other respected guest teachers devote their energy to pass on the teachings of the traditional Indian gurus and yogis. Various courses are offered at the ashram all year round.
